High Point Market - the world's largest furnishings industry trade show - never fails to set the stage for emerging trends and innovations in the world of interior design. As we step into 2024, the Market continues to serve as a compass for designers, retailers, and enthusiasts alike, offering a glimpse into the future of home design. Let's delve into the captivating trends unveiled at the High Point Market 2024, shaping the landscape of design for the year ahead.
Color As Far As The Eye Can See
As we emerge from an era of stark white-gray-black color palettes, we notice a continued influx of color that’s been building for a while now. The showrooms that have been primarily neutral in the past are now showing a rainbow of color and prints, even on the bigger pieces of furniture you would typically find in a home, as well as the accent pieces like table lamps and pillows. You know my take on this! Life is too short for everything to be beige.
Statement Pieces
Several showrooms were showing departures from the typical materials used on sideboards and storage pieces. Furniture design is beginning to become more adventurous in not only color but also pattern and detail. Everything from bold animal-printed chests to dining chairs with intricate gold metal carvings were on display this year, leading us into a new period of furniture design!
A Swing Towards Traditional
As homeowners seek to create environments that evoke a sense of nostalgia and enduring beauty, the timeless allure of traditional design continues to captivate and inspire, shaping the way we experience and live in our homes today. We’re seeing a resurgence of classic shapes in furnishings – details like rolled arms, skirts, and more ornate detailing. These pieces also incorporate the bright colors and patterns that are on the rise in design trends, giving a fresh take on traditional shapes.
Artisanal Craftsmanship
In an age dominated by mass production and digital printing, High Point Market is making a conscious effort to spotlight the revival of artisanal craftsmanship and handmade traditions. Designers showcase the beauty of imperfection, celebrating the human touch and the heritage of craftsmanship passed down through generations. I was able to attend a tour of their Maker space, where we saw a variety of small maker handcrafted ceramics, textiles, and accessories that would infuse spaces with character, authenticity, and a sense of timelessness, elevating the art of living to new heights.
